Rotherham Labour Labour Councillors in Rotherham
Rotherham has maintained its position as the fastest growing local economy in Yorkshire according to latest research. The UK Powerhouse report is published by Irwin Mitchell every quarter and provides regional economic analysis of cities across the UK. In the latest report out this month, it confirms that Rotherham is still the fastest growing economy in our region.
This month’s edition of the UK Powerhouse report reflects on the economic performance of UK cities in the fourth quarter of 2018. It highlights that Rotherham enjoyed economic growth of 1.6%, placing us as the 18th best performing local economy in the UK. Not only did the borough maintain its’ position of being the fastest growing economy in Yorkshire, the only other Northern cities to do better were Aberdeen and Manchester.
Cllr Denise Lelliott, Labour’s Cabinet Member for Jobs and the Local Economy at Rotherham Council, has said: “This report confirms the fantastic economic growth we’ve been experiencing in Rotherham and reflects the great success we’ve had in attracting significant investment in our borough. We’re determined to maintain this growth going forward and these latest figures confirm the great work that’s been done so far.”
Over recent months in Rotherham we’ve seen the opening of McLaren’s new £50m factory at the Advanced Manufacturing Park, the re-opening of the refurbished Rotherham Interchange, the building of Gulliver’s new family theme park and the launching of the new Tram-Train service between our town centre and Sheffield.
